How reservations work

A simple process from our farm to your freezer.

We raise only a limited number of grass-fed steers each season, so reservations help us plan carefully and serve each customer well. Once you reserve, you'll receive a cut sheet to customize your order through Lepp's Farm Market.

1

Place your deposit

The deposit is non-refundable and is $200 per half. For a whole grass-fed beef order, place two deposits.

2

Complete your cut sheet

Your cut sheet is due by October 15. This is where you choose how you'd like your grass-fed beef cut and packaged, and it also affects your final take-home weight.

3

Pay your remaining balance

Final payment is made by eTransfer before pickup once your total is confirmed.

4

Whole beef requires two deposits of $200 each.

Buyer planning details

A few practical numbers can make planning much easier before you reserve.

Half Beef Planning

  • Estimated take-home weight: about 180–260 lb
  • Freezer space: roughly 8–12 cubic feet
  • Good fit for: families who want a stocked freezer without needing a full upright freezer

Whole Beef Planning

  • Estimated take-home weight: about 360–520 lb
  • Freezer space: roughly 16–24 cubic feet
  • Good fit for: larger households or anyone wanting the full yield and enough storage space

Hanging weight is not the amount you take home

Most customers take home roughly 60% to 65% of the hanging weight, depending on the cut sheet, bone-in versus boneless choices, trimming, and added processing. For example, a 350 lb half based on hanging weight may result in roughly 210–230 lb of packaged beef in your freezer.

Pickup timing

Pickup is typically arranged in mid-November, usually within a practical window once processing is complete at Lepp's Farm Market. Further instructions are sent when your order is ready.

A half beef is often a great fit for families wanting a freezer stocked with steaks, roasts, and ground beef. A whole beef is best if you have the freezer space and want the full yield. Your expected take-home weight will depend on how you complete your cut sheet.

FAQ

A few common questions

Our steers are raised on pasture and fed a grass-based diet. We emphasize grass-fed, pasture-raised beef because that is central to how we farm at 16 Acres.
The price is $10.25 per lb of hanging weight and includes processing by Lepp's Farm Market, including cut and wrap, plus ground beef. Optional sausage and pepperoni are available at additional cost.
Hanging weight is the weight of the carcass after slaughter and before final cutting and packaging. Your take-home amount will be lower because bones, trim, and moisture loss are part of the process.
Place two deposits using the reservation link. A whole beef is essentially two halves, so the total deposit is $400.
Final payment is made by eTransfer before pickup once your total is confirmed.
Expected take-home weight depends on your cut sheet and final processing choices. The amount you bring home will be lower than the hanging weight.
Each customer must fill out a cut sheet by October 15. You can download it here: Cut Sheet PDF.
